The Red Shawl Campaign

#MMIWG2S

This is a campaign that began with Elder Imelda Perley, which is devoted to bringing awareness to missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA in Canada. The Red Shawl Campaign creates a space of action and for healing. It helps people join together to honour the women and to pay respect to their lives and existence on earth. It provides support and a safe space for families and friends to share and to heal.

The Red Shawl is a symbol of protection; this is what a young girl earns in her footsteps to becoming a woman. When we as adult women wear shawls, as grandmothers, mothers, sisters and aunties, we embrace the gift of healing. It is in this healing we move forward to a platform of justice .The media, the general public, politicians and even law enforcement must face this reality and understand it as a travesty of justice MMIGW2S Red Dress Campaign
